Open letter to Amazon's Jeff Bezos
by TheEtruscan at 22:23 December 20, 2013
Dear Mr. Bezos,
Take away the roomful of servers, their skillful deployment and the sophisticated databases and what is left of the internet giants but a thousand shades of the same code?
My way is different. I have four web sites running web applications that I wrote in Java and JSP (Java Server Pages). They are:
Presently, GoDaddy is my domain name registrar and my host provider. The set-up is a Virtual Private Server (VPS) with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, IIS (Internet Information Services) 7.5 and Parallels Plesk Panel (which I don't really need). Small potatoes indeed (more server power and scaling up the database...)
- TarchonTec.com - My portal and software offerings page
- muralVox.com - A social network
- Si-Si-Blog.com - Say it, See it Blog - a blogging platform
- myCart (myCartFreeApp.com is the domain name) - An online clothing store shopping cart application (Just like a real store but something to play with)
I have a model in mind where to take those web applications and more. The mere fact that each of them is more or less 2,000 lines of code including ancillary files like *.html, *.jsp, *.txt is enough to put the big guys of the internet to shame (one of my intents).
My model for the internet will work. In my own way I am already accomplishing some of it with the Java web browser I wrote although not (yet) intended to replace full-fledged browsers.
Thank you for your consideration. I am happy to answer any questions and provide further details.
